A friend gave me a unpainted collection of old school bikers a few weeks ago. Exited about my gift horse, I immediately took them home and looked them in the mouth.
After initial inspection, I decided to make a few tweaks to get them a little closer to the modern sculpts. I replaced the heads and the flags with bits from the Stormboys box. I then removed the gun bridge and brought the dakka closer to the frame of the model.
Painting
I wanted to speed paint these fellas and get them on the board as soon as possible. Below are a few techniques I used.
Contrast Black Templar for much of the model, then dry brushed Necron Compound on top. This saved me some nuln oil in certain areas I didn't want to paint metal.
Base coat Mephiston Red. Add a heavy shade of Carroburg Crimson wash. Go back and paint the raised areas Wild Rider Red. I didn't bother blending. It looked like this:

Then I went back and painted the mid tones Mephiston Red again, leaving the recesses darkened by the wash. I covered the Wild Rider Red areas with a thinned Mephiston Red (watered down). This provided a nice blend with not too much work here:

Finally I finished up the remaining areas and there you have it:

Now I am looking to create a synergy with my list, with the full knowledge that I will be paying a price for fielding both moons and suns in next edition. Oh well, time for a mek boy...
